Peer Feedback + Analysis

Positive feedback:

Good idea, made sense and well explained
I like the colour scheme and the yellow/black tape idea gives the sense of rock and roll and metal
Style and colour matched genre very well and I like the idea that it is local (+14 a possibility?)

Improvements suggested:

Make audience wider maybe by including other genres or things which aren’t so narrow to the genre
Decide on a title either epidemic or pandemic
Try and spread variety

Analysis:

From the majority of the feedback that I received It is clear I need to not be so narrow with my ideas and try and widen my audience if my magazine were to realistically be placed on the market.
I also gained from my feedback a vote on who preferred Epidemic and who preferred Pandemic, the majority was Pandemic and I also agree with this as the play on words works better with my magazine and genre and also I may be covering a band called Epidemic in the double page spread and this could cause confusion or repetition.
The feedback on my style, colours and unique ideas were very positive so I should focus less on the design and more on the content with the implantation of something which will widen my audience and variety.
Overall my feedback has helped me greatly in understanding where I need to improve and where I should leave designs as they are as my target audience ( which was the majority of the class age wise) liked the designs and ideas but not just how narrow the genre of the music/content would be. Also other than expanding out to a wider audience it would be a better idea to aim it between a bigger age ranegs such as 14-18 instead of specific teen ages.

Audience Research

Target audience

What is the age demographic for my magazine? 14-18

What gender largely consumes my magazine? Mostly male but both genders are considered

Is it for an existing audience or seeking to create a new? It may exist but not as strongly as I believe therefore a bit of both.

Is it targeted at a particular social class & income bracket? The age is the teenage range and therefore will consist of students and people who are of an average class and possibly any income bracket to widen the audience and make the magazine more appealing.

Is it for a narrow or broad audience? The genres I have discussed so far are very narrow but hopefully I will broaden this as reflected in research people prefer to have more of a broadened magazine when it comes to genre instead of very narrow and specific.

Survey Link and Results

From the results we can tell that the majority of people who answered my survey were 17 or younger or between the ages of 18-20

The majority of the people who answered my survey was male, this is good because my magazine is largely aimed at the male gender whilst still keeping some of the female audience

Most people do not read magazines very often at all as we can tell from the falling trend in the survey, there is the occasional person or two who does still read music magazines though

Although a wide range there was a upwards trend in rock as it was the most voted along with punk, metal, alternative. This reflects my target audience well and which music genre i plan to use in my magazine

As i predicted and confirmed by the survey results, these results correlate with the young age and i would agree with £2-4 being the best choice and i will base my price around there as it released fortnightly

The main response to why people would read magazines was
to see what's going on and to get the cool posters

When i asked what people looked for in a music magazine the trending responses were

Free posters, information on bands or upcoming bands
Cool posters, interviews with bands, tour dates, upcoming band information
Free posters/stickers etc and Decent News

When asked if people read any music magazines most said they did not but the only ones who did read Kerrang! (Mainly for the posters) and NME (used to read classic rock) This backs up the research that shows that rock and alternative/metal is the most popular when it comes to music magazines.

When asked what would people like to see in magazines in the future the responses were:

More upcoming bands/undiscovered artists
More coverage of underground bands who have a lot of potential and try to do something different than most the bland music being made these days
New bands, new releases, and posters.
